To clean an acrylic aquarium, you will need to use mild soap, soft microfiber cloths, acrylic-safe polishes, and scrapers with plastic blades. Products you should not use on your acrylic aquarium

Here is a list of household cleaners and tools that you should not use on your acrylic aquarium:

Regular Coarse Sponges

They are too rough for acrylic tank panels. Most household glass cleaners

If a cleaner is not labeled as safe for acrylics, you should absolutely avoid using it to clean your acrylic aquarium. Depending on the density of your aquarium and its general configuration, you will need

– Perform water changes periodically (more frequently for small tanks);

– Make sure that the tank filter does not clog;

– Clean/change filter media as needed;

– Siphon the gravel once a month;

Generally, most home aquariums will be made using one of these materials:

Starfire/Starphire Regular Glass or Low Iron Acrylic Glass

Regular glass aquariums

Plain glass is the most popular glass for home aquariums. The best way to remove coral algae on an ACRYLIC aquarium is to use a scraper designed for acrylic like this:

For corners, seams, and overhangs, I recommend a combination of the following:

New and unused toothbrushes

Algae scouring pads for aquarium type (glass or acrylic) - Ideal for hand use

Algae scrubbers with handle for the type of aquarium (Glass or Acrylic)

Clean the exterior

Soft rags, paper towels and a bit of clean water will do wonders for making the glass shine.
